The Cost of Poor CCTV Backhaul?

Siklu DistributorIn today’s market the quest for higher quality, HD or megapixel CCTV is greater than ever. There are numerous options for great IP camera vendors and you can easily deliver the quality that’s demanded. With HD the unanimous standard for CCTV today, the issue of backhaul is often overlook. How do we get high capacity data back to the central control room or link multiple camera clusters? We need to look at a high capacity wireless data link.

SikluCabling is one option. Cabling is great and perhaps a method we are most familiar and confident with. The only issue we have with cabling as sometimes they break. A break in the centre conductors can be caused by excessive pulling or bending or shorts can occur. If there is no picture we need to establish where the issue is occurring. It can be time consuming and costly to try and locate the problem. Perhaps there is a ‘snowy picture’ or bars rolling on the monitor, is the coax picking up electrical, magnetic or radio interference?

The world is going wireless and people are choosing wireless backhaul. The advances in technology now afford us the ability to provide high capacity, ultra low latency and almost interference free wireless backhaul. Siklu design and build very cost effective millimetre wave wireless Ethernet bridges. Ranging in capacity, from 100Mbps up to 1GB full duplex, the Siklu Ethernet Haul Series can effectively deliver the capacity required, and coupled with the availability of up to 99.999%, Siklu meets backhaul requirements for your CCTV installation.

Siklu operates in the lightly licensed 70 and 80GHz bands. There is a small annual cost payable to OFCOM of £50 to register the equipment however there are no expensive licensing costs like many alternatives. The 80GHz band is very uncongested and with an ultra narrow beam width of 1 degree, even as more links are being deployed, this is unlikely to change. Purdicom have invested heavily in our pre and post sales team and as a true value add distributor can assist with design and network planning, training and ongoing technical assistance.

The time is now to migrate from analogue to IP. The existence of the Siklu Ethernet Haul Series makes deployment times rapid. Additionally it opens up other potential revenue streams along with protecting margin as there is no need for the end user to involve expensive IT companies to consult or deploy infrastructure.
