Gigabit Voucher Scheme: Building Your Siklu Business

In this blog post, we are discussing the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, its many iterations and how you can take advantage of the scheme. By leveraging this scheme, you can help connect rural homes and businesses, saving them from the blight of poor connectivity and also apply for the funding to cover the cost of the deployment.

WHAT IS THE GIGABIT VOUCHER SCHEME?

So, what is the Gigabit Voucher Scheme? If you’ve not already come across it, the scheme was introduced to help the UK hit its connectivity targets to build faster, gigabit-capable broadband infrastructure to rural homes and businesses. The aim of the Superfast Broadband Programme, first launched in 2011, was to guarantee access to ‘superfast internet’ across the entire country. Under the scheme, super-fast broadband was defined as a download speed of at least 24 megabytes per second. Funding was put in place to ensure that the target could be met and is expected to be achieved by 2025.

WHO IS THE GIGABIT BROADBAND VOUCHER SCHEME FOR?

The gigabit voucher scheme has been renewed, amended and updated many times since its inception, however, it has always provided vouchers. The vouchers have always been available to private homes and/or businesses in rural areas with low speeds (as above) alongside their ISPs or WISPs to cover the cost of installation. This scheme is ideal for all service providers in the UK and their end-user customers. Registration for funding is easy and is paid within two weeks to the appropriate party on completion of the works.

What’s on the table?

Rural premises with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can use vouchers worth up to £3,500* for each SME or £1,500 per home, to support the cost of installing new fast & reliable connections.

*Some locations are receiving much more – up to £7,000 each

What are the different gigabit voucher schemes?

Currently, there are three different regional schemes, one each for England, Scotland and Wales. The different schemes all provide slightly different funding, ranging from £1,500 per home or £3,500 for each SME in England, with up to £7,000 (SME) available in Wales with combined funding and more variations in Scotland.

ENGLAND

Rural premises with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can use vouchers worth up to £3,500 for each SME or £1,500 per home, to support the cost of installing new fast & reliable connections.

SCOTLAND

A voucher worth up to £5,000 to help deliver a permanent broadband connection where there is no roll-out of superfast broadband planned as part of the R100 project. In some cases, it may be possible to combine Scottish Government funding with the UK Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) which provides £1,500 for rural homes and £3,500 for rural businesses.

WALES

Rural premises in Wales with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can use vouchers worth up to £7,000 for each SME or £3,000 per home, to support the cost of installing new fast & reliable connections.

NOT A FIBRE INSTALLER,

BUT STILL WANT TO GET INVOLVED?

Many providers already taking advantage of this programme are only able to install fibre. And that’s fine, however many end-user customers will be more concerned with the speeds delivered and ultimately how quickly they can get connected.

Siklu provides an alternative to fibre. Something less disruptive. Something much better:  Fibre through the air. You can connect your customer wirelessly with Siklu and deploy in days without the need to dig trenches or lay cable. It couldn’t be any quicker, cleaner or easier.

Siklu has developed a complete portfolio of mmWave solutions to deliver fibre performance wirelessly. The portfolio includes many options for all deployments including the EtherHaul™ Kilo Series which is a high-capacity point-to-point radio delivering up to 10Gbps, full-duplex over 4.3 miles. The Kilo products are the most widely deployed 70/80GHz radios in the world supporting dense deployments and with virtually no interference.

Couple this ground-breaking technology with the support you’ll receive from Purdicom (technical, sales support and marketing), and you have everything you need to take this scheme to market.
