To beat congestion in regular radio frequency spectrums, people are turning to the millimetre wave spectrum as an alternative for high speed wireless network connectivity. Sitting between 60 GHz and 70-80 GHz frequencies, these high frequency bands feature narrow beams that do more to battle interference than most other alternatives, making mmWave the preferred choice in data-greedy urban environments.

It’s come a long way from being used for simple one-off PtP links between a tower and a wireline PoP. A backhaul link on the same tower as the RAN made the site acquisition and power supply easy, but those days are gone.

Network design engineers are now having to deal with complicated deployment scenarios that take up substantially more time than ever before. They now have to consider the boosted capacity demand whilst navigating hundreds of links that intersect throughout cities.
